If you've never quite placed where Franz Josef Glacier is, then this photo taken from our Skydive Franz plane will give you an idea. Down in the bottom left is our village of Franz Josef, right next to the Waiho River which runs out of the Franz Josef Glacier valley, the glacier is out of shot to the right.
Over to the left is the Tasman Sea. The snow covered mountain range is the Southern Alps which run almost the length of New Zealand's South Island. Out of shot to the right is NZ's highest mountain Aoraki/Mt Cook (3724m/12,218ft) and the Tasman and Fox Glaciers. It's a cracker of a spot so close to such high mountains but also close to the ocean with lakes and rivers in between.
