One of the biggest events on the West Coast of the South Island is the Wildfoods Festival in Hokitika. The Wildfoods Festival has become an iconic event with new wild foods introduced every year. Festival-goers have the opportunity to try crocodile bites, chicken feet, grasshoppers, colostrum cheesecake, mountain oysters and the infamous stallion protein shots. Rest assured though if you prefer gourmet style food, there are plenty of other delicious options.
Hokitika is only about 90 minutes drive from Franz Josef Glacier so you'll have time to eat something adventurous and still do a skydive here in Franz Josef Glacier. The 26th annual festival is happening on the 6th of March 2016.
